Amidst the current situation of COVID-19, Jigme Namgyel Engineering College joined the nation in observing the Social Forestry Day on 2nd June 2020 coinciding with the Coronation Day of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo. The event in the college is an effort to contribute towards achieving the national goal of environment conservation in a small way.
On the occasion, the President highlighted on the importance of the day by emphasizing on the vision of our Monarchs on the conservation and preservation of country’s natural resources and environment. He also remarked that the College has been playing important role in protecting the natural environment in the campus with collective effort from staff and students. The President inaugurated the event by planting the Gulmohar sapling. Coordinated by the office of the Dean Student Affairs and Estate Management, the staff were engaged in planting saplings at their specific locations and also carry out maintenance of existing trees and flowers in the campus.
The College received a total of 50 ornamental Gulmohar Tree sapling from the Divisional Forestry Office in Samdrup Jongkhar. Indeed, the Forestry Division in the Dzongkhag has been supporting college annually in observing this important occasion to realize the national goal of Environment Conservation.
