In order to pay respect and tribute to Zhabdrung Rinpoche and keep alive the rich culture and tradition associated with the legacy, Dewathang Jigten Wangchuk Tshogchhung (DJWT) was constituted in 2012, chaired by Dr. Andu Dukpa, Director of Jigme Namgyel Engineering College, Dewathang.
The Tshogchhung is comprised of the following:
1) Jigme Namgyel Engineering College
2) Dungsam Academy
3) Garpawoong Middle Secondary School
4) Dewathang Primary School
5) Rikhey Community Primary School
6) Dewathang Thromde and
7) Lam and other volunteers of RBA, Dewathang
It is crucial that young minds in academic establishments as well as Bhutanese people in general remember, appreciate and pay respect and tribute to the highly revered founding father of Bhutan, Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, undoubtedly the greatest figure in the history of Bhutan. Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel unified the country and established the dual system of government and in addition, introduced a distinctly Bhutanese cultural identity in the country.
Since the last 3 (three) years, the Tshogchhung has been organizing mass Jigten Wangchuk prayer recitation during 10thday of the 3rd month of the Bhutanese calendar coinciding with Zhabdrung Kuchhoe as one of the main activities.
This year marks the royal birth of His Royal Highness The Gyalsey, the birth of Guru Rinpoche and the 400th year of the arrival of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in Bhutan, making it a very auspicious year.
This year again on Zhabdrung Kuchhoe (April 16, 2016), a mass recitation will be organized, coinciding with the naming of HRH The Gyalsey. The mass recitation will be dedicated to the wellbeing of HRH The Gyalsey, His Majesty the King, Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen, His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo and the people of Bhutan.
On April 4, 2016, Mr. Tashi Wangchuk, Coordinator, Jigten Wangchuk Tshogpa, Thimphu under the chairmanship of Dasho Sangay Khandu and partronship of Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen visited JNEC and held meeting with the DJWT. As an appreciation of the activities DJWT has been carrying out till date and additional support handed, over a sum of Nu. 31,000 to Dr. Andu Dukpa, Chairperson, DJWT.
