In its swift and significant transition, the Institute known as Royal Bhutan Polytechnic across the country during its formal establishment in 1974. The name of the institute was later changed as Jigme Namgyel Polytechnic after becoming the constituent member college under Royal University of Bhutan.
Currently with the advancement of programmes at degree level in the college and its future prospects, the college again felt the need to upgrade and brand new name. Keeping this in view, the management of the college on 27th October, formally embraced the new name again as Jigme Namgyel Engineering College.
