Selection of In-service Candidates for Lateral Entry into Bachelor of Engineering in Power Engineering
1.Eligibility Criteria
Candidates with Diploma in Electrical Engineering (EE) with a minimum of 55% and 24 months of active service including provisional period are eligible for entry into 2nd year of the programme under Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL). APL is provided to all modules of 1st Year B.E. Power Engineering programme as the 1st year modules are carefully designed as fundamental modules that would be covered in the first year of any Diploma in Electrical Engineering programme. Candidates with a diploma from outside Bhutan will have to study and pass the following additional modules as compulsory non credited modules:
- i) Academic Skills, and
- ii) Dzongkha Communication
This will enable the in-service candidate to complete the course in 3 (three) years duration.
An applicant should have completed Diploma in Electrical Engineering from Royal Bhutan Polytechnic/Royal Bhutan Institute of Technology (RBIT) / College of Science and Technology (CST) / Jigme Namgyel Polytechnic/ Jigme Namgyel Engineering College.
Selection of in-service candidates will be carried out through an Entrance Exam conducted by the college. The Entrance Exam will comprise of written tests in the following subject area:
a) Fundamentals of Electrical Power Systems (30%)
b) Fundamentals of Electric Circuits (30%) and
c) Mathematics (40%).
Bridging courses will be conducted for those who are selected, in Fluid Mechanics (FLM102) and Applied Mathematics-II (AMA103) which are offered in second semester of Bachelor of Engineering, Power Engineering and are not included within the scope of studies at Diploma level programme.

2.3 No objection certificate from the current employer if employed
2.4 Work experience certificate for the last 24 months
3. Modality for Entrance Exam
3.1 Formation of In-Service Admission Committee
3.1.1 DAA, Controller of Examination & Heads will form the Admission Committee.
3.1.2 Respective Department shall set the entrance examination question papers.
3.2 Candidates shall be selected through competitive Entrance Examination conducted by the College.

5. Registration for Entrance Exam and Entrance Exam
5.1 Applications must be submitted to Mr. Phuba, Asst. Examination and Student Record Officer through fax (No. 07- 260289) or e-mail to phuba@jnec.edu.bt on or before 24th February 2019.
5.2 Registration & issuance of examination admit cards for eligible candidates – 5th March 2019.
Following documents must be produced at the time of registration:
a) Original Academic Transcripts
b) Recommendation letter from the current employer
5.3 Entrance Examination – 6th March, 2019 (Applicants have to report to the College, register for the entrance examination and collect the Admit Card. Entrance examination will be conducted one day after the registration and issuance of admit cards).
5.4 Payment of Entrance examination fee of Nu.1000/-per candidate – 5th March, 2019 (at the time of registration).
5.5 Declaration of Entrance Examination result – 16th March, 2019.
6. Post Entrance Examination Requirements
6.1 Issuance of Provisional admission offer Letter by the College -18th March, 2019.
6.2 The selected candidates shall be required to pay the tuition fees for (i) the two bridge courses and (ii) one semester and also submit the following documents within 30th April 2019.
a) Letter of Acceptance
b) No Object Certificate from the employer c) Academic Transcripts
c) All other relevant document (as notified in the announcement)
If any candidate(s) fail(s) to fulfill the requirements vide clause 4.2, the provisional admission offered to the candidate by the College shall be forfeited and the same will be made available to the next candidate in line, who in turn has to complete all formalities in a month’s time from the date of issuance of offer letter.
6.3 Registration for the programme – 3rd week of July, 2019, along with pre-service candidates. The candidates have to submit all relevant documents at the time of registration for the programme.
7. Fees Structure Payable by the Candidate.
7.1 Selected candidates will be required to pay tuition fees @ Nu.8,636.00* each for two modules (which will be offered as bridge courses) in addition to the prescribed tuition fees for the year. This tuition fees has to be paid upon receiving their Provisional admission offer Letter along with the first installment of the tuition fees as mentioned in clause 4.2.
7.2 A selected candidate will be required to pay the following:

7.3 If any candidate withdraws after registration, the fees paid shall be forfeited except caution money.
7.4 Other fees, if any, will be charged as applicable to regular self financing candidates.
8. Accommodation
Candidates are required to arrange their own accommodation. However, if there are vacant accommodations available in the campus, the college will extend hostel facilities for a period of one semester at a time, with rental charges as admissible to other candidates.
Similarly, candidates shall make arrangement for their own food. If they are enrolled in the mess, they will have to pay the mess charges as admissible to other candidates.
9. Availability of Seats
Maximum number of seats available is 15 candidates
10. Date for Bridge courses
Bridge Courses will be offered for the following two modules to the selected candidates upon fulfilling the conditions in clause 6.2.
- FLM102 Fluid Mechanics
- AMA103 Applied Mathematics-II
The bridge course will be conducted from June 20 to July 20, 2019 at JNEC.
