The college started offering Diploma in Mechanical Engineering since 1988 and is being offered as two year full-time programme. It is one of the oldest departments in the college It was instituted to meet the requirements of mid-level technical human resources in the country.
Since its inception, the College has produced 361 mechanical engineering graduates until day, who are serving in various organizations in the country.
The programme is designed to provide a plethora of exposure and skills in the field of applied mechanical engineering related to latest and emerging technologies. The programme provides an avenue for our aspiring youth to pursue and make a career in the field of mechanical engineering and transform into the way we visualize machine technology and automations.
The department has a set of qualified and experienced faculties and technicians in addition to the excellent teaching-learning facilities. The department is currently in the pavement of inaugurating Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering programme by July 2018.

Learning Outcomes:
After the completion of the two year course the graduates are expected to be able to:
- Meet technical expertise of a Mechanical Engineering technician to support industrial infrastructural development and support.
- demonstrate broad-based and practice-oriented training
- execute problem solving and demonstrate analytical skills
- practice and apply skills to read and interpret Mechanical engineering drawings, tender documents correctly and supervise construction projects
- Understand the importance of professionalism, management and problem solving techniques in their daily works

For any country to take firm steps towards development, mechanization and automation is inevitable in industries, plants and intuitions. Along with massive establishment of hydropower sectors and increasing number of automotive related service in Bhutan, the graduates of Diploma of Mechanical engineering have an excellent career prospect in variety of fields. Accordingly, the content of programme is designed and periodically updated to meet the changing requirements and challenges of the country in a very effective, productive and resourceful manner.
