Regional Employment and Labour Office from SamdrupJongkhar region under the Ministry of Labour and Human Resources visited the College on 1st September, 2017 to sensitize on the Job portal and Labour and Employment Act. The programme was mainly to enhance the human resource development for economic development and to ensure gainful employment for all Bhutanese work force.
The official from the Regional office shared that people are not aware of the job portal services and access its facilities. The facilities is mainly useful for students who will graduate from their educational institutes and seek for employment opportunities. Thus, the second year students of all the programmes attended the awareness programme.
During the programme, the officials also demonstrated on how students can avail this facilities. The programme educated students to know the importance of registering under the job portal service as it will help them to be informed about the employment opportunities related to their educational background.
Further the students were also informed about the rights and obligations enshrined in the Labour and Employment Act, which was enacted during the 86th session of the National Assembly. The officials shared that unless students are aware of their rights and obligation they will not be able to exercise their rights with due diligence. They should know their rights so that they are not treated unfairly or differently to the rest of the working society when they enter the world of work. overall the students were familiarized with the regulations and guidelines while entering the job market and also the right of the employer and employees.
