Three Professors from Lund University, Sweden, Dr Martin Anderson, Dr Ricardo Bernado and Dr Pia Otte visited the college from 26 September to 2nd October to discuss about the ongoing research project “Solar Food: Reducing post-harvest losses through improved solar drying” funded by Swedish Research Council. The objective of the project is to develop solar drying technology co-produced with farmers rather than for the farmers by following a participatory research approach.
During their stay at the college, they met with the staff and final year students pursuing research on solar food drying. The team also inspected the new solar food dryer being fabricated by the college as a part of the project. They had also visited the nearby farms and interacted with the local farmers about the possibility to test the dryers in their fields. The JNEC team along with a student from Lund University will test dry ginger, turmeric, pumpkin, and cardamom.
