Jigme Namgyel Engineering College (JNEC) proudly marked a significant milestone as its students showcased their research prowess at the prestigious CoMSO 2024—an International Conference on Modelling, Simulation, and Optimisation hosted by the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar, India. The event, renowned for fostering global collaboration, brought together eminent researchers, academicians, industry professionals, and policymakers to exchange ground breaking ideas and address critical challenges in the domain.

A remarkable highlight was the distinguished keynote speech by Dr. Tshewang Lhendup, the esteemed president of JNEC. Representing Bhutan on the global stage, Dr. Lhendup’s participation elevated the college’s stature and inspired attendees from over 12 countries. His insightful address added immense value to the conference, emphasizing innovation and the critical role of research in sustainable development.

Among the many achievements, the paper titled “Optimum PV Design and Reconfiguration of Rubessa Solar Farm using Comparative Genetic Algorithms ~ A Solution to PV Systems Operating Under Partial Shading Conditions” by Lhendup Thinley Dorji and Chencho Dorji received the Best Paper Award in its technical session. This outstanding accomplishment highlights JNEC’s commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions and underscores the students’ dedication to impactful research.

The conference saw active participation from five students from JNEC, who presented four research papers, three from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and one the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Their work was supported by JNEC, which generously sponsored Nu 15,000 per paper as research funding, enabling these budding researchers to share their findings on an international platform.

The journey to NIT-Silchar, including flights from Guwahati, was both logistically challenging and thrilling for the participants, adding a unique dimension to their academic adventure. Reflecting on the experience, the students expressed heartfelt gratitude to the college for fostering an environment of academic excellence and providing them with this invaluable opportunity. As an additional feather in the cap, the proceedings of the conference are set to be published in Springer’s Smart Innovation, Systems, and Technologies (SIST) series, indexed by ISI Proceedings, EI-Compendex, DBLP, SCOPUS, Google Scholar, and SpringerLink. This promises to bring global recognition to the research contributions of JNEC students and faculty.

The successful participation of JNEC at CoMSO 2024 not only reinforces its reputation as a hub of academic excellence but also reflects its steadfast commitment to empowering students to contribute meaningfully to global research and innovation.
