Coinciding with World Red Cross Day, which is observed annually on May 8th, Dr. Tshewang Lhendup, the President of the College, graced the inauguration ceremony of the Rock Garden built by members of the Jigme Namgyel Engineering College (JNEC) Red Cross Youth, who are also members of the Bhutan Red Cross Society (BRCS).
Established under the Bhutan Red Cross Society Act of 2016, BRCS is an autonomous and not-for-profit organization that strives to establish a network of volunteers in communities throughout Bhutan who are able to provide services in social services, health, and disaster risk management, complementary to those of the Royal Government and other organizations.
JNEC Red Cross Youth members are actively involved in voluntary work within the college, having volunteered in activities such as water source management, blood donation, cleaning campaigns, and serving refreshments during college events. Currently, there are around 57 JNEC students who are members of BRCS, including 17 females. They plan to increase their membership after the official inauguration of the Bhutan Red Cross Youth.
