Jigme Namgyel Engineering College held a 10-day workshop from April 17th to April 27th, 2023, aimed at training Estate Managers and Maintenance Team members on Infrastructure Maintenance and Supervision.
The workshop was attended by 18 participants from colleges under the Royal University of Bhutan.
The first four days involved rigorous in-house theoretical and experimental classes at JNEC, followed by field visits to sister colleges from April 22nd to April 27th. The visits aimed to gain practical knowledge, identify potential problems, develop problem-solving skills, understand safety protocols, and build networks.
During the visits, participants met with the Presidents of the sister colleges, who emphasized the importance of being an Estate Manager and Maintenance Team member, the importance of supervision and constant monitoring, and how infrastructure determines the vision of internationalization. Some Presidents also cautioned against a blanket policy framework, as it limits creativity, innovation, and idea generation, and emphasized the importance of repurposing old structures.
The workshop concluded with a six-day field visit to Samtse College of Education (SCE), where participants received certificates from the President of SCE. Jigme Namgyel Engineering College organized the training with funding support from the Department of Planning and Resources, Office of Vice-Chancellor.
