Jigme Namgyel Engineering College has always been able to establish exchange programs from various University in Japan and these program has been vibrant even today. In line to exchange programs, Professor Hitoshi Fujiwara made his visit to the College on 3rd September. This is his sixth visit to the college since 2014 and with his initiative, College has been receiving SAKURA SCIENCE Program for both faculty and Student. The aim of this program is to invite excellent youth from Asian countries to Japan and allow them to discover Japan’s state-of-art in science and technology; participate in exchanges with Japanese talent at Universities and research institutions for human resources and research.
However, the visit by Professor Fujiwara to the College is to discuss on the following:
- Schedule and plan for the upcoming exchange program in which five students and a faculty from the college will travel to WASEDA University, Japan in 2nd week of December 2018 for a duration of eight day. The discussion is also to understand about the selection requirements and other formalities along with its timeline.
- Discuss on hosting international conference on ‘Social Impact of ICT’ with focus on Bhutan and developing countries’ which is tentatively scheduled in March 2019, in Bhutan. The main aim of the conference is to bring academician, researchers, relevant organization and CSO together on common forum along with knowledge and skills transfer. It is also to build strong networks between participants in order to progress further for academic and joint research activities.
In addition to the discussion topics, long term capacity development program for faculty and staff to WASEDA University was discussed and also to conduct joint projects together. The College is deeply grateful to Prof. Fujiwara and ‘Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST)’ Government of Japan to their unwavering support and opportunity in excelling towards the vision of being one of the premium colleges in the region.
